Somewhere on the road less traveled

I am a 34 year old who recently retired, sold my home and possessions and bought an RV so I can travel America. Please come along on my adventure by following me here. Enjoy.

On a ferry going to...

...Cedar Island. I am on the southern end of Cape Hateras taking the ferry back to where I will be on the mainland again. Yesterday I went to Kitty Hawk and saw where the Wright brothers made the first powered flight in 1903. It was really cool to be standing in the actual field where so many of their experiments took place and where aviation began. I stayed at an RV resort last night in Wave, NC. It was right on the beach and quite huge but it was fun. I got some laundry done and soaked in the hot tub for an hour. Then I walked on the beach and watched the moon and people were shooting fireworks and had fires going, and it was a very nice night. Today I worked my way south and went to the Cape Hateras Lighthouse. I went up it which is a fun climb up 257 steps that corkscrew around the inside. The view from the top was great though. Visibility was 12 miles and it's out on a point so there is water in two directions. It is a lighthouse that was moved in 1999 to keep it from falling into the ocean. It was neat to see the pictures and the path from when it was moved. Once I'm back on the mainland I think I will follow the coast south into South Carolina. I have never been to Myrtle Beach so I figure why not since I'm this close. The ferry ride is supposed to take about two and a half hours so I think I will try to get a nap now. Might try to get some pictures first though. Take care everyone, Jim
